The Big Idea

In the book Hats: A History of Fashion in Headwear, author Hilda Amphlett gives an intriguing depiction of hats throughout history. The detail description of all the hats worn throughout every century leads us to believe that Hilda Amphlett believes hats were a big part of history, mainly in the fashion category and have symbolized how power, class, and masculinity has been formed by different designs of hats. The book is written in 3rd person perspective, giving the reader a very accurate and un-biased representation of what fashion was throughout history. The author gives facts after facts about the designs and times hats were in fashion, even giving multiple pictures of hats on each page drawn accurately from history. The way Amphlett separated the book into centuries was effective of recounting the history, as it provides a comparison between old and new fashion designs. I don't disagree with anything the author says because she is stating facts throughout the whole book and doesn't use 1st person opinions once in the book. Hats: A History of Fashion in Headwear simply states facts about the fashion to prove how hats over time have shown positions in life and have become a big piece of fashion.
